Quizmastery

What is the collective noun for flamingos? Which flower did the Ancient Egyptians view as a symbol for resurrection and eternal life? Which Olympic sport uses the smallest ball? In 2015, which toy company was declared the world’s most powerful brand? What is the proper term for an infinity symbol?

I love quizzes and occasionally host quiz nights for charity. I play with a unique gimmick and love mixing up trivia, pitching that perfect balance between too easy and impossible.

During the 2020 lock down, I began hosting weekly quiz nights to provide a welcome distraction to people, having ten to twenty teams playing every week. This culminated in November 2020 when I self-published Questioning Your Sanity, a general knowledge quiz book, followed by Still Questioning Your Sanity in 2023.

Also in 2023, I wrote questions for the BBC One quiz show The Tournament.

I have also written dozens of quizzes on free quiz website, Sporcle, some of which have been played thousands of times. Some of them are linked below.

Since March 2020, I have been posting walls to PuzzGrid, a website that allows you to create walls like those featured in the BBC series Only Connect.

Thanks to being part of a pioneering team that created the hashtags #OCwall and #wallgang, I helped create a small community of like-minded people.

Examples of my grids can be found here, here and here.

ZOOM QUIZZES

As stated above, I also began running quizzes via Zoom for between ten and twenty players, even attracting participants of television quiz shows thanks to the high quality and wide variety of questions I provided. These would go on to form the basis of Questioning Your Sanity.

In 2021, I began releasing reduced versions of the quizzes for those who wanted to play but were not available for the full one. Some of these are below.
